DG seeks partnership of Police, SSS, others

The Director General, Greater Calabar Capital City Development Authority , Comrade Kingsley Ita Ikpeme has ended a familiarizing tour of security agencies in the state.

Areas he visited were the Commissioner of Police, Cross Rivers Command, Hafiz Mohammed Inuwa; Director, Department of State Security Service (SSS), Fubara Duke; and the State Commandant, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Haliru Uman Alhassan.

The DG informed them that the Act established the agency was passed into law on the 9th of June 2016 and that the agency came on bored on November 1, 2016.



According to him, the agency is charged with numerous responsibility among them are to create a well-planned new city that would cater for that residential and industrial interest, responsibilities for the planning, development and administration of areas classified as special development areas created from Calabar Municipality, Calabar South, Odukpani, Akpabuyo, Bakassi, Akamkpa and Biase.

Others are regulations of sanitation management of transportation and provision of security within the city among others.


He further disclosed that the authority is not only intended to correct the current unbridled development and urban sprawling in Calabar, but also seek to expand infrastructure into new development areas for the benefits of the larger population.

Ikpeme added that the GCCCDA is intended to  achieve this by working in conjunction with any government agency,departmen, private firms, security agencies as well as individual as may be necessary.

The DG however, appealed for effective collaboration and synergy with security agencies like the Nigerian Police Force, SSS, and NSCDC knowing fully well that no meaningful development can take place in an environment devoid of law, peace and other.

In separate response, State Director, SSS, Fubara Duke congratulated Comrade Ikpeme on his appointment, "your appointment speak good of this administration that is focusing on youth development".

He said Ayade's government has given youths opportunity to think of tomorrow and to participate in future building.

Duke also commended the DG for seeking to interface with security agents and promise to synergize with the authority when the need arises.

The commissioner of police and the State Commandant NSCDC on their part also promised to partner with the authority in providing the necessary security within the new city but charged everybody as the task is not on the security agents alone.
